Kevin looked up at the 3 boys.
"Well can you?" Brian asked getting impatient.
Kevin took a deep breath. "No. I can't and if he doesn't find someone qualified and who will adopt him with in the next week...." He paused and the 3 boys looked at him scared to know what he was about to say. "children services will place him in an orphanage and he will no longer be part of the group." Brian, AJ and Howie looked at him in shock and surprise.
"NO! I DON'T WANT TO GO TO AN ORPHANAGE!" The four boys looked at the spot where the yelling came from and saw Nick standing there crying. Nick then turned around and ran up the stairs and slammed and locked the door to his room. The other guys ran up the stairs and knocked on the door.
"Nick? Will you let us in?" Kevin said calmly. The four guys only heard a muffled and heart broken cry of "no" from the other side of the door. "Come on guys, let's leave him alone. He will come out when he is ready." Kevin said and lead the other three guys back down the stairs and they sat in the living room trying to figure out how to keep Nick.
Meanwhile in Nick's Room~~~~~~~
"I don't wanna go." Nick sobbed to himself. He looked up to the ceiling, tears running down his young face. "Why God? Why can't I be with the only people that treat me like family? That ARE my family? You took away my parents PLEASE don't take away my brothers, please?" He pleaded then cried himself to sleep.
Back in the living room~~~~~
"Nick has been up there for a while. I'm going to go see if he is ok." Kevin said getting up and went upstairs. He knocked on the door and received no answer. He decided to unlock the door incase Nick decided to do something stupid. He took out a key and unlocked the door. He walked in slowly. He saw Nick had fallen asleep. Kevin smiled a little. Nick looked so innocent and peaceful. If it wasn't for the tear streaks on his face Kevin would have thought nothing was wrong. Kevin placed his hand on Nick's back.
"I will find a way to get you to stay with us." He whispered so he wouldn't wake Nick. He then coved him with a blanket and walked out and closed the door. He walked slowly down the stairs back to the other guys.
"How is he?" AJ asked.
"He is asleep. Guys we are all he has left. With he parents gone and no other family in sight, we are his only family." Kevin said getting upset.
"Calm down Kev, we will figure out something." Howie said hugging him.
"Yea cuz I know we will." Brian said trying to bring in some hope. The phone rang and Brian answered it.
"Hello?" He asked. "OH hey mom!.... yea that's right... we don't know what to do, we want him to stay........ nope no other blood relatives......what? REALLY?!" The other guys looked up when Brian started to get excited. They saw Brian smile. "Oh my God! That's great! Thanks mom! And tell dad thanks! I love you guys! Bye!" Brian hung up the phone.
"What did your mom say cuz?" Kevin asked
"Yea what did she say?" Howie and AJ said together.
"Well My folks heard about Nick and you know how they love him." Brian paused.
"SPILL IT BEFORE I HURT YOU!" AJ said tired of waiting.
"Ok ok.... Well they got clearance to adopt him!! If Nick wants to my folks will take him in. He would be able to stay with us!!!!" Brian said smiling and laughing. The other three guys jumped up and started hugging each other.
"We should tell Nick." AJ said. "I don't think this time he would mind being woken up." The others agreed and they ran up the stairs to Nick's room. They all went inside. Kevin gently woke Nick up.
"Nick I need you to wake up now." Kevin said softly gently shaking him. Nick moaned and slowly opened his eyes.
"What's the matter Kev?" Nick asked. Kevin smiled. Nick was confused. "Kevin? What's going on?" Nick asked.
"Well..." Brian said stepping forward. "I'll get right to it. My folks want to adopt you." They waited for Nick's reaction. It took a second for it to sink in. Nick then smiled widely.
"REALLY?!" He yelled. "I'm gonna be adopted by your folks?! We will be brothers?" Nick said excitedly.
"Yep and they know how you want to keep your last name too and they have no problem with that! You'll just be Nickolas Gene Littrell Carter." Brian said smiling. Nick laughed.
"That sounds really cool!" Nick said beaming.
"Let's go out and celebrate!" AJ said throwing his hands in the air and dancing a little. They guys laughed and they all got cleaned up. They all went out to Nick's favorite place. Sports Plus. It was a place full of video games and laser tag and it also had ice skating and bowling. It was a great place to go! (AN: Sports Plus is a real place except it is on Long Island and not in FL and it really does have all that stuff in that place)
They had a great time and they celebrated. Nick had a place to live and a loving family now. No one would ever hurt him again.
Or so they thought.
